The people of Spokane County are faced with a momentous decision that will shape our future for generations to come.
Do we continue with the same government that serves only some of our citizens, or do we strive to build an inclusive community that serves all of us? Can we have more people in good schools, good jobs, and safe communities, and fewer people in jails, hospitals, and on the street? Can we resist the urge to let fear guide our hand, and instead be guided by hope, compassion, respect, and dignity?
Andrew Biviano is a Democratic candidate for Spokane County Commissioner who believes Spokane County is ready to do big things. We are ready to provide justice, equality, and dignity to all. We want to fight for living wages, the rights of women, minorities, and the disabled, and protect the environment. We no longer want to lead the world in incarceration rates, while lagging behind in health, transportation, education, and innovation. We reject the forces in our country that seek to divide us, exclude and disenfranchise certain races and religions, and provoke violence. We stand against those who would use government to dictate our personal lives, including whom we can marry, our healthcare decisions, and even the restroom we use.
In short: We will move forward, rather than be dragged into the past.
But to do this, we need to bring everyone into the conversation. Andrew knows that the top-down approach to government isn’t working. He knows that leadership means listening, and not just to the powerful. He will listen to those who have not been heard and find solutions that have not been considered, just as he has done as an attorney and mental health counselor. As a resident of Spokane almost his entire life, Andrew knows the goodness of this community and wants to be your advocate. He would be honored by your vote.
